We moved all the time when we were young. We were always finding new ways of doing things, new ways of going to new places. Enthusiasm flooded our consciousness with positive thoughts and the energy and vitality of youth. New discoveries filled our days. Our eyes and our emotions were wide open. Awareness surrounded us.

As we grow older, though, we humans become set in our ways. After years of doing the same tasks over and over again, our brains go on autopilot. Places once new become old. We lose enthusiasm, energy and vitality. Like a heavily traveled highway after many years of use, the neural pathways in our brain develop ruts. Our days, once filled with new discoveries, now seem boring — the same old same old.
