Our Movement Professionals
Carolyn Townsend (Feldenkrais® Practitioner and Physiotherapist)
Carolyn has a passion for helping people move with greater ease and comfort. It’s a passion that has been the hallmark of her long career as a physiotherapist. Since 1971, when she first began practicing in Fredericton, she has devoted herself to what she refers to as “mindful movement.”
In 1985, Carolyn and a colleague opened Fredericton Physiotherapy, the city’s first private physiotherapy practice. Her success enhanced not only her reputation, but also her desire to expand her knowledge and skills for the benefit of her clients. In the late 1980s, she discovered the Feldenkrais® Method and took several courses in the United States over the next few years.
In 2000, she enrolled in a Feldenkrais® training program in Toronto. After four years of training, she became a certified Feldenkrais® practitioner. “The Feldenkrais® Method,” Carolyn says, “has added a powerful and fascinating dimension to my goal of helping people discover a new way of moving with comfort and ease.”
Carolyn can be contacted by phone at (506) 461-6898 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Nancy Anderson (Hatha Yoga)
After completing over 800 hours of teacher training in Hatha Yoga, Meditation, and Yoga Philosophy from the Yoga Center of Calgary, Nancy certified in 2001 and has been teaching mostly gentle and pre-and post-natal yoga since. In April 2014, she completed Level I of iRest Yoga Nidra training at Kripalu, which qualifies her to identify herself as an iRest Teacher-in-Training. She also holds a B.A. and B.Ed. Nancy’s personal philosophy toward yoga is one of finding ease in movement and breath for all body types and conditions, which complements with bringing the mind to rest through meditation.

Verna McKeen (Belly Dance Exercise)
Verna started attending belly dancing classes and workshops more than 10 years ago. “I enjoyed it so much,” she says, “a few girls and I formed a belly dance troupe. We performed in our own shows, at birthday parties and bachelorette parties, held workshops and classes and danced in other belly dance performers’ shows. I enjoy teaching and showing others just how fun and easy learning belly dance can be. It’s a great way to meet new people.”
Verna can be contacted by phone at (506) 471-4917 or found on Facebook by searching for Shimmy Shack – Belly Dance.
Chelsea Marilyn Gilmore (Women’s Self Defense – Ages 12 and up)
Learning self defense while staying in shape and building confidence.
I started my martial art journey at the age of 9. I practiced Taekwondo for 9 years earning my 3rd Dan, earning my Kukkiwon certificate that allows me to teach.
Later I moved on to a mix of Judo and Mauy Thai for a year and a half. Martial Arts has made such a huge difference in my life with my confidence and overcoming shyness, I want to be able to pass this along to others.

Carol has been working with Carolyn Townsend for several years. In her role as administrative assistant, she keeps Lokamotion Complementary Health Studio and Feldenkrais® Fredericton running smoothly. “After an accident back in the early ’90s, I was referred to Carolyn Townsend for physiotherapy and became one of her ‘practice’ patients while she was learning the Feldenkrais Method. I’ve been practising it daily for more than 10 years and find it to be extremely beneficial. “When Carolyn asked me to be part of Lokamotion Complementary Health Studio, I was thrilled to jump on board. May we all move more easily each day doing the things that we love!”
